Earlier this year I headed down to Sayulita to escape from the gloomy Portland Winter for a bit. While there I found these two also seeking some respite from the Portland rains. I was itching to shoot down there and was super pumped when they agreed to join me one evening for a little sesh. After a short ten minute walk from town we found ourselves in the jungle and a short while after that the trail opened up to an amazing vista overlooking a huge beach totally empty of people. It was like our own little private beach! We had a blast exploring the rocky shores and dodging the waves tumbling onto the beach.
In December I had the pleasure of shooting my lovely friends Sam & Ashley for their recent engagement! We left town heading towards Oswald State Park. On the way, we drove by this incredible field of yellow flowers - feeling this was an opportunity not to be passed, we flipped a U-ey, pulled over, and headed into the field. I have no idea what these flowers were thinking, being so darn pretty in the middle of December, but I'm so grateful because it was such a cool place to shoot! We then continued on to the coast. We had an awesome time exploring the beach and taking photos. After, we grabbed some snacks and a beer at Pelican Brewing before making the drive back to Portland. It was an amazing day full of lots of laughs. I can't wait for their wedding in October! Woop Woop!
I'm catching up on my blogging and in the next few weeks will be posting some of my shoots over the past few months - starting with this super dope, super fun shoot with my recently engaged friends Timmy & Jianna at Tamanawas Falls! Fun fact: Timmy is a huge NY Mets fan, Jianna surprise proposed at a Mariners game when the Mets were in town - jumbotron and all! She made this amazing video leading up to and including the proposal. Warning: may induce tears.
After a short hike we were quickly rewarded with views of the amazing, powerful falls. We took some time to hang out, take it all in, and maybe even enjoy a beer or two before starting to shoot. We had a ton of fun and came away with some really incredible images! I am so happy I'm able to be a part of their story and grateful for the laughs that we shared that day!
This was a special one - one of the most emotional, personal, and joyous moments I have ever been a part of. I joined Brian and Mattie, along with four of their friends (now my friends), on a four day long backpacking trip during which Brian and Mattie would be getting married. We all met at the Wallowa Lake Lodge where we stayed and enjoyed dinner the night before setting out. We hit the trail early the next day after eating a bit of breakfast and maybe a mimosa or two. We left not knowing where the ceremony would take place, understanding that we'd know it when we found it. After two days of hiking in the beautiful Wallowa backcountry we found ourselves at Frazier Lake - a quiet lake under the mountains, the area nearby carpeted by wildflowers - this was it. We woke before sunrise to get ready under headlamp. There was this intense calm feeling in the air. The excitement of what was about to happen, mixed with the quiet of the lake, and the power of the mountains made for some magical energy. The ceremony was truly amazing - sunrise, in a field of wildflowers, two people so full of love for each other they couldn't contain it. I get misty eyed every time I look at their photos. We took some time to celebrate with a bottle of champagne that had been chilling with snow in a water bladder, took a few photos, and headed back on the trail, finishing up the last two days of hiking. I can't say enough about how awesome of an experience this was. The opportunity to create the strong bonds that only heading into the backcountry with someone can create, mixed with such a powerful display of joy and emotion made for the most memorable wedding I have ever been a part of. I'm so thankful I got to be there. Congrats Brian and Mattie! Love You!
I'm excited to be back on the blog and sharing Lauren & Joey's awesome wedding held on the roof of the Eastside Exchange in Portland earlier this summer. I spent the earlier part of the day at the Nines Hotel with Lauren and her team of amazing bridesmaids while they were getting ready. We all shared a pretty emotional moment when Lauren read a heartfelt letter written to her from Joey. I then headed over to the Exchange where the gentlemen were hanging out pre ceremony in the locker room, sippin' a little whiskey and waiting for things to get started. Meanwhile on the roof, guests began to arrive and enjoy some cocktails in the sun while serenaded by members of the local band We Three (who were awesome btw). The ceremony was beautiful with with an awesome mixture of laughter and love and the Portland skyline in the background. Lauren, Joey, and I then went on a little walk around the surrounding blocks to shoot a few photos and then headed back for the party. The speeches were heartfelt and hilarious, one of the highlights being a story with photographic evidence about Joey dressing up as a University of Oregon cheerleader. I gotta admit, he looked pretty good, he even made it into a magazine spread. The party continued with dancing and late night Voodoo Donuts. An awesome time was had by all and I am so thankful I got to be a party of such an amazing night.
Wedding season is warming up, and what an awesome way to kick it off! Meg and Peter celebrated their love with a lovely, intimate gathering on the Redwood Deck at Hoyt Arboretum. So cool to be a part of a wedding surrounded by Redwoods! I didn't even know they existed in Portland! It was raining all morning, but the rains stopped just in time for the ceremony! The two were married by Peter's mother and read vows to each other they wrote themselves. So magical! We were prepared with umbrellas, so naturally we still played around with them because, why not? I told Meg not to stab Peter with one, but she did anyways (See below). Thankfully, he got better. Anyways it was an awesome day and I'm so happy for these two!
I had a great time shooting with this lovely couple at the Portland Rose Gardens and The Oregon Zoo during their Zoo Lights a few weeks ago! The chemistry between these two is amazing, they made my job super easy! We braved the cold together and had a great time! Can't wait for their wedding in August!
Marian, Jason, & I headed out to Silver Creek Falls for a nice little couples shoot. On the way out we noticed a lot of awesome Christmas tree farms and decided to stop and take advantage of the amazing scenery. Wow, I'm so glad we did! These two killed it!
